Honeymoon: Amsterdam, Day Two
Red Light District and Cocktails
Our first day in Amsterdam was absolutely magical, but it was a lot of going from place to place and seeing the sights.
By day two, we’d gotten the initial excitement out of our system and gave ourselves the grace to take our time exploring.
We had another delicious brunch at Pancakes and got ready for a day of wandering the narrow canals and streets of Amsterdam.
Breakfast and wandering Amsterdam (May 2024)
The weather was clear and sunny, which made for a lovely walk around the Jordaan neighbourhood. It’s a little more off the beaten path of the city, with lots of cute little cafes and shops.
I, of course, stopped into all of the thrift shops we could find! Tye dye and Converse shoes are my thrift shop kryptonite, so in Amsterdam, I was in heaven.
The best views in Amsterdam, in my opinion (May 2024)
The next stop after Jordaan was the Red Light District.
When I was in Amsterdam last, I’d seen the Red Light District very briefly at night, walking from one destination to another. It was kind of nice to be there in the light of day and just enjoy the neighbourhood.
The Red Light District is quirky and interesting, but probably not what you think it is. It’s a residential area. People live there. People are making a living. It’s not an anything goes district. It’s respectful.
Burgers and cocktails (May 2024)
When it was time for dinner, Brandon and I pulled up Google Maps and looked for something we’d been craving since we’d been to Europe: a burger.
Our friend had recommended a cocktail bar called Tales & Spirits, and there was a burger spot only a few doors down, Burgers n’ Wings.
So we grabbed burgers and fries at the small shop (that has since closed down), and then went for drinks at before heading back to the hotel and crashing for the night.
